Day 1

Above the 3,000 m line we cap net gain at roughly 500 m a night and your guide carries a pulse oximeter. Ask for a rest day if the graph looks steep — we would rather rebuild the schedule than carry someone down.

Pacing

Relaxed 4–5 hours walking, with a spare acclimatisation night built in above 3,500 m. Standard 6–7 hours walking. Normal Himalayan staging with one rest day at altitude. Express Long days, minimal rest. Only sensible if you have been high in the last year.

A relaxed schedule costs more because it is more nights on the hill; express costs slightly less but gives altitude no time to work.

The daily rate covers the driver, his food and lodging on the road, and fuel on the standard route. Rough-road surcharges — Simikot, Upper Dolpo — are quoted openly, never buried.

Guide-to-trekker ratio

1:2 One guide per two A private Sherpa who walks at your pace and watches your breathing hourly. 1:4 One guide per four Our standard. A lead guide plus an assistant once the group passes four. 1:8 One guide per eight Group departure pacing. Fine on well-marked teahouse trails below 4,000 m.

A tighter ratio means more wages, insurance and teahouse beds, so it costs more. We do not run anything looser than 1:8 above 4,000 m.
